Vecna Robotics Inc., a company specializing in automation solutions for factories and warehouses, has successfully raised $14.5 million in its latest funding round. The investment was provided by existing investors, including Tiger Global, Drive Capital, and other institutional backers.
In conjunction with the funding, Vecna Robotics announced the appointment of Karl Iagnemma as the company’s new CEO. Iagnemma, who previously led autonomous vehicle developers Motional and NuTonomy, brings extensive experience in robotics and leadership. Motional is primarily owned by Hyundai Motor Co., while NuTonomy was acquired by Aptiv in 2017 for $450 million.
Since its founding, Vecna Robotics has raised approximately $200 million across several funding rounds, including a 2020 investment led by Iagnemma. The company’s robots are designed to automate material handling in industrial environments, streamlining tasks such as moving goods within factories and warehouses. The robots use cameras, radar sensors, and artificial intelligence to navigate autonomously and find the most efficient path to their destinations.
Vecna Robotics offers four main types of robots: an autonomous forklift, a tugger, an autonomous pallet truck, and a compact pallet jack. These machines are designed to enhance efficiency in material movement, with capabilities such as covering speeds of up to 6.7 miles per hour and towing carts with up to five tons of merchandise. The robots are also connected to a backend management platform called Pivotal, which coordinates their operations and collects data to improve facility performance.
The company plans to use the funds raised to accelerate product development, particularly in the automotive, general manufacturing, and high-volume warehousing sectors. The expansion of its robotics technology and focus on customer requirements in these industries are expected to drive further growth for the company.
