Tesla, the electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, is set to establish a new parts distribution center in South Carolina, in response to the increasing demand for electric vehicles. This move comes as the company reported producing nearly 495,000 vehicles in the fourth quarter, marking its highest quarterly output to date.
The chosen site for the new facility is the Fox Hill Business Park, which offers potential for future expansion with up to 2.5 million square feet available for manufacturing, distribution, and warehousing activities, as highlighted by the development corporation.
The location of the center in Greenville, South Carolina, presents strategic advantages. It is in close proximity to the Inland Port Greer and the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport, and it also provides convenient access to the Port of Charleston and Inland Port Dillon. This positioning is expected to facilitate efficient transportation and logistics operations for Tesla.
Mayor GP McLeer of the City of Fountain Inn, located in Greenville County, commented on the significance of Tesla’s new facility. He noted that it would serve as a valuable link connecting the region’s existing suppliers with the automaker, thereby bolstering the local automotive supply chain.
Tesla’s expansion in warehouse operations has been evident over the past year. In August 2023, the company commenced a lease for a 927,000-square-foot distribution facility in Newburgh, New York, dedicated to automotive parts. Additionally, in January, Tesla announced its investment plans of $3.6 billion for two manufacturing sites in Nevada. These sites are designated for producing battery cells and for the production of Tesla’s high-volume semi truck.
