The UK logistics industry has cautiously welcomed a recent government funding boost for electric heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), saying it sends a positive signal to fleet operators considering the transition to zero‑emission trucks. Logistics sector representatives highlighted the importance of this support for reducing upfront costs and encouraging investment in cleaner freight transport.
Under the expanded Plug‑in Truck Grant, an additional £18 million has been allocated to help reduce the purchase price of electric trucks until March 2026. The enhanced funding increases maximum discounts on new zero‑emission HGVs — with support of up to £120,000 for the largest vehicles — making electric options more accessible for hauliers and fleet owners.
Industry commentary noted that while the grant extension is a welcome step forward for long‑term decarbonisation planning, certainty beyond the March deadline is needed for operators to plan fleet investments with confidence. Logistics stakeholders emphasised that sustained support and clarity on future funding frameworks will be crucial to accelerate widespread uptake of electric trucks across national distribution networks.
