Shipments of perfume products from the UAE and Saudi Arabia are facing delays due to the recently implemented US tariffs. The new 10% tariff, announced by President Trump, has led to customs hold-ups, particularly affecting shipments of Arabic and Dubai-based fragrance brands. These products, which have gained a steady following in the US, are now encountering logistical hurdles.
Jimmy Chacko, CEO of Dubai-based Hekayat Attar & Jimmy Aventus, reported that their latest shipment, weighing 2,000 kilos, is currently stuck at the Memphis airport due to the new tariff regulations. US customs officials have stated they are awaiting further instructions on the implementation of the new tariffs, causing delays in the clearance process.
Other fragrance brands from the UAE and Saudi Arabia have noted similar disruptions, though they are trying to mitigate the impact by limiting price increases on their US products. Despite the tariff, many local perfume companies remain optimistic about maintaining demand, especially for their high-end offerings.
“Arabic fragrances, especially those from Dubai, have seen growing popularity in the US market, particularly for premium labels,” said a Dubai-based perfume brand representative. “We hope that the tariff’s impact will be minimal and that consumer interest will remain strong.”
The Arabian perfume sector has seen notable growth in the US, with some premium fragrances selling for upwards of $200 per 100 ml bottle. However, the average price range for many products remains between $60 and $100 per bottle. Chacko mentioned that around 70% of their sales are derived from the US market, where their products are priced between $30 and $45 for a 100 ml bottle.
Before the tariff changes, perfume products were largely exempt from import duties, with only minimal fees applied for air freight. The impact of these new tariffs on market dynamics is still being closely monitored by industry leaders.
