Furthermore, the United States is collaborating with Canada and the United Kingdom to synchronize their sanctions on the military regime. This involves the designation of three entities and five individuals who have provided support to the Burmese regime in committing human rights violations and abuses since the military coup in February 2021. These designations are intended to close off avenues for sanctions evasion and bolster international efforts to hold the regime accountable for its actions. The three nations are urging all countries to take tangible steps to obstruct the flow of arms, aviation fuel, and revenue to the Burmese military regime.

They call upon the international community to intensify its actions in addressing the deteriorating human rights, humanitarian, political, and economic crisis in Burma. Today’s actions align with the initiatives of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the UN Security Council, and regional countries in their pursuit of a just resolution to the conflict in Burma. The international community is urged to utilize all diplomatic tools at its disposal to exert pressure on the regime, compelling it to cease its atrocities and violence, release individuals unjustly detained, facilitate unhindered humanitarian assistance, and uphold the will of the Burmese people for genuine and inclusive democracy.
