Tesla Introduces Upgraded Model 3 in North America

Tesla has launched the restyled version of its popular Model 3 compact sedan in North America, maintaining its pricing despite the notable enhancements. This move aims to rejuvenate Tesla’s vehicle lineup in its largest market, following a competitive pricing strategy in the previous year that contributed to achieving annual delivery targets at the expense of profit margins.

The revamped Model 3, available in long-range and rear-wheel drive variants, introduces new features such as a rear display for backseat passengers. Notably, the long-range variant now boasts an extended range of 341 miles on a single charge, up from the previous 333 miles. Tesla has also updated the wheel designs, presenting two new color options: “Stealth Grey” and “Ultra Red.”

In terms of pricing, the rear-wheel drive variant is priced at $38,990, while the long-range variant is available for $45,990. These prices reflect the exclusion of a $7,500 federal tax credit, which became ineligible at the end of 2023 due to new guidelines under the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act.

Tesla’s North American websites no longer feature the Model 3 Performance variant, which was the highest-priced version at $50,990 before the federal tax credit.

The upgraded Model 3, developed as part of the “Highland” project, was initially unveiled in China in September of the previous year at a higher price point. It subsequently entered the European market a month later.

Industry analysts attribute Tesla’s recent record quarterly deliveries to the design improvements and incentives offered by the company towards the end of 2023. However, it’s worth noting that Tesla has slipped from its position as the leading electric vehicle maker by sales, losing out to China’s BYD in the fourth quarter. This shift underscores the competitive challenge posed by the Chinese firm, which has successfully generated demand with its more affordable electric vehicles.
