St. Petersburg, April 6, 2026 — The first International Transport and Logistics Forum (MTLF) held from April 1 to 3, 2026, brought together entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, and industry leaders to explore emerging opportunities in the global transport and logistics sector. The forum highlighted technological innovation, infrastructure development, and collaborative approaches to enhancing the movement of goods and people.
The event attracted participants from 82 countries, providing a platform for networking, deal-making, and discussions on strategies for upgrading transport facilities and logistics networks. Plenary sessions emphasized the need for investment in medium- and large-scale enterprises, improving access to finance, and adopting innovative technologies to enhance efficiency and sustainability in the sector.
“The MTLF has become a platform for open international dialogue on the challenges and opportunities facing the global transport industry. Participants from diverse regions brought valuable insights into infrastructure development, logistics management, and digital solutions,” said Anton Kobyakov, executive secretary of the MTLF Organizing Committee.
Several international ministers and officials highlighted ongoing projects and investments in transport infrastructure. H.E. Suhail Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates, spoke about his country’s investment in railway infrastructure and efforts to expand freight connections across Asia and Africa. Similarly, Kokou Edem Tengue, Minister Delegate for Maritime Economy of the Togolese Republic, underscored the growing importance of ports such as Lomé for regional trade and logistics.
Collaboration between countries was a major theme. Discussions between transport authorities from Brazil and other participants focused on the integration of digital technologies, unmanned systems, and modernized legislation to facilitate maritime transport, aviation, railways, and autonomous delivery systems. Proposals included high-speed railway construction, the use of drones for cargo delivery, and enhanced logistics training programs to develop human capital in the sector.
Academic institutions were also emphasized as critical players in supporting technological advancement. Valery Falkov, Minister of Science and Higher Education, highlighted the expansion of advanced engineering schools, including initiatives under the “Priority 2030” program. These programs aim to strengthen transport-related research, innovation, and education, providing platforms for students and professionals to collaborate on practical solutions for global logistics challenges.
Technological innovation emerged as a key driver of transformation in transport. Autonomous vehicles, electrification, artificial intelligence, and robotics are increasingly integrated into logistics operations, from warehouses and terminals to last-mile delivery in urban centers. Digital platforms enable real-time monitoring of infrastructure and vehicles, creating efficient, secure, and transparent transport systems.
Minister of Transport Andrey Nikitin emphasized the broader societal impact of improved transport networks. “A well-developed transport system not only ensures the smooth movement of goods and people but also stimulates economic growth in connected regions,” he said. He added that digitalization and unmanned technologies are creating new standards for the safe and efficient operation of transport systems worldwide.
Forum discussions also addressed the long-term challenges posed by the technological revolution in transport and logistics. Participants highlighted the need to plan for decades ahead, considering the adoption of digital infrastructure, autonomous systems, and integrated logistics corridors. Innovations in robotics and AI are expected to streamline operations, reduce costs, and improve delivery efficiency across industries.
The forum, organized by the Ministry of Transport and supported by the Roscongress Foundation, served as the largest international industry-focused event of its kind in the city. Its theme, “Development Through Access to Global Markets,” reflected the growing role of innovation, collaboration, and digital solutions in shaping the future of transport and logistics.
