In early June, James Tanoos from Purdue Polytechnic’s supply chain program traveled to Munich, Germany, after presenting at a conference in Rotterdam and before another scheduled presentation in Zurich. The purpose of his journey was to return to the Munich University of Applied Sciences (MUAS), where he has developed an academic connection since his first visit in 2022.
Since that initial visit, significant exchange and collaboration have developed between MUAS and Purdue. During his visit, Tanoos served as a guest lecturer for an MBA class at MUAS. He also had the opportunity to speak with a student who will be attending Purdue in the fall.
Tanoos’ presentation at MUAS included industry case studies from Ford and Tesla, focusing on the companies’ post-pandemic global supply chain strategies. The Ford example discussed significant changes to the company’s supply chain strategy, while the Tesla case examined potential effects on the company’s stock price following the reveal of the Cybertruck. MUAS graduate students were tasked with developing collaborative consulting recommendations as if presenting to the Tesla board of directors for a 2024 plan.
Tanoos also planned a workshop for a study abroad program in May 2025, where his students will work with MUAS undergraduates. During a previous study abroad program over spring break, Purdue students toured BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche factories in Germany.
Study abroad opportunities within Purdue Polytechnic are often the result of years of effort to establish international partnerships and create unique curricula for Purdue students. Purdue Polytechnic administers these programs through its Office of Globalization.
