Stadler Anlagenbau GmbH, based in Altshausen, Germany, has announced the launch of its innovative WireX automated bale wire remover, which the company touts as an industry breakthrough. The technology is designed to efficiently and safely remove wires from single and cross-wired bales in one pass. Stadler will introduce this new machine at the upcoming IFAT exhibition in Munich, Germany, this May. Baler wire is crucial in the recycling industry for collecting, transporting, and handling large volumes of materials. However, the process of removing these wires from bales has traditionally been a labor-intensive and time-consuming task, often performed manually or with minimal mechanical assistance. This manual process can pose significant safety risks to workers and is seen as a bottleneck in recycling operations.
Rok Mežič, head of development at Stadler, highlighted that the need for a more efficient solution was evident from discussions with customers and experiences in the company’s sorting plant projects. The result of these insights is the WireX system, which automates the de-wiring process, enhancing both the efficiency of operations and worker safety. The WireX uses advanced sensor detection and measurement systems to accurately gauge bale dimensions and effectively remove wires without the need for manual intervention or a second pass through the machine. This streamlined process not only saves time but also significantly increases the capacity of sorting lines. The machine itself is built with a robust steel frame designed to withstand vibrations, and it features a geometry optimized for standard bale dimensions.
Bales are fed into the machine via a conveyor system, where they are precisely positioned for wire removal. After cutting, the wires are coiled and collected in a separate bin as ferrous scrap, ready for recycling. The introduction of WireX is expected to fill a critical gap in the market, offering a safer and more efficient solution for material recovery facilities facing the challenge of processing large volumes of baled recyclable materials. Stadler asserts that this technology sets new industry standards and closely aligns with the needs of their customers. The WireX device has undergone extensive testing at Stadler’s test center in Slovenia and is currently in the final stages of testing at a customer’s recycling facility. With its official launch at the IFAT exhibition, Stadler aims to showcase the significant advancements that WireX brings to the recycling industry.
