Kazakhstan is advancing major transport infrastructure projects designed to strengthen its position as a key logistics hub connecting European and Asian markets.
The country is developing the Beineu–Saksaulsk highway, alongside the expansion and reconstruction of the Kyzylorda–Saksaulsk and Ulgaysyn–Saksaulsk corridors. Together, these projects are designed to improve domestic connectivity, increase transit capacity, and support more efficient cargo movement across Eurasia.
The planned Aral–Caspian Highway is expected to connect transport routes from the Chinese border with the Caspian ports of Aktau and Kuryk, potentially reducing freight distances between China and Europe by nearly 1,000 kilometres and delivery times by up to three days.
The three road projects cover a combined 774 kilometres, with freight volumes along the corridor expected to rise 2.5 times to approximately 13.2 million tonnes annually once completed.
Kazakhstan is also strengthening its wider transport network. Freight transportation reached nearly 37 million tonnes in 2025, while road cargo volumes have doubled over the past five years. The country currently forms part of eight international transport corridors, with around 35,000 vehicles using these routes each day.
Rail infrastructure is developing alongside the road network, with new railway lines connecting key regions and trade routes. Border checkpoints along international highways are also scheduled for comprehensive modernization by 2027.
Digitalization is another key element of Kazakhstan’s logistics strategy. New transport initiatives are expected to combine physical infrastructure with digital freight systems and modern logistics services, creating greater visibility and efficiency across supply chains.
With road, rail, port, border, and digital infrastructure developing together, Kazakhstan is positioning itself as an increasingly important transit link between China, Central Asia, the Caspian region, and Europe, supporting the continued growth of Eurasian trade.
