The Philippines has officially sent its first shipment of frozen durian products to China, amounting to around PHP8.2 million, according to the Department of Agriculture (DA) announcement on Thursday.
The shipment consists of 1,050 boxes of frozen durian meat and 300 boxes of durian paste, which were sent to Nansha District, Guangzhou, on February 11. This milestone comes after China’s General Administration of Customs approved frozen durian exports from Davao-based Maylong Enterprises Corporation.
Macario Gonzaga, Regional Executive Director of DA-Field Office Davao, pointed out how important this is for Filipino farmers. “From the rich soils of the Davao Region to the busy markets in China, our frozen durian reflects the hopes of many farmers. This achievement shows what we can achieve when we work together,” he said.
Maylong Enterprises Corporation’s Chief Operating Officer, May Li, highlighted the company’s aim of connecting local durian growers to the global market. “We want to help local farmers reach a wider audience and ensure that Philippine durian gets the recognition it deserves,” she explained.
This export is part of the government’s larger efforts to boost agricultural productivity, increase the country’s presence in international markets, and promote food security.
Flor de Hasmin Bayo, acting regional manager of the Plant Quarantine Service at the Port of Davao, praised the work done to meet China’s strict import rules. “This success wouldn’t have been possible without their dedication to maintaining high standards,” she noted.
The successful export of Philippine durian to China is a significant milestone for the country’s agricultural exports, paving the way for more market opportunities in the future.
