South Korea and Kazakhstan are expanding cooperation in energy, critical minerals, technology, and trade following the signing of a memorandum on the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

The two countries signed 13 cooperation documents covering areas including atomic energy, crude oil, science, and technology. Their broader partnership also includes opportunities to develop lithium and other critical minerals.

Kazakhstan’s significant mineral resources provide opportunities for greater cooperation in exploration, production, and processing. South Korea can contribute advanced technologies and industrial expertise to support the development of these resources.

The partnership can also strengthen connections between mineral production and downstream industries, supporting a more integrated flow of critical materials across international supply networks.

Both countries are exploring ways to expand trade beyond traditional energy resources and develop new areas of economic cooperation. Critical minerals such as lithium can support industries including advanced manufacturing, technology, and clean energy.

The cooperation forms part of wider efforts to deepen economic ties between South Korea and Central Asia while supporting energy and mineral supply diversification.

By combining Kazakhstan’s resource base with South Korea’s technological capabilities, the partnership can support stronger critical materials supply networks and expanded opportunities for international trade.
