Europe Expands Automotive Supply Chain Logistics

by Jessica Jumaway

in Supply chain and Logistics

Europe’s automotive logistics network is set to gain a more integrated road transportation platform focused on the movement of finished vehicles from ports and distribution hubs to dealerships and other final destinations.

The new logistics operation will extend established maritime vehicle transportation capabilities into inland road logistics, creating a more connected flow between European ports, automotive facilities, distribution centers and dealerships.

The service will support automotive manufacturers, dealership groups, fleet operators, shipping companies and logistics partners through finished vehicle transportation, cross-border deliveries, port-to-dealer movements, distribution center deliveries, vehicle processing, inspections and storage.

Operations will initially cover major automotive markets including Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain, France, the Czech Republic and Poland. The network will connect important gateways such as Antwerp, Bremerhaven, Rotterdam and Marseille with inland distribution hubs across Western and Central Europe.

The operation is expected to launch with 50 truck and trailer units, with plans to expand toward 300 owned trucks by 2029. The fleet will include multi-car transporters capable of carrying up to 10 vehicles, depending on vehicle type, route and applicable regulations.

Digital logistics systems will also support the network through GPS tracking, telematics, route optimization, fleet management and transport monitoring. These technologies are designed to improve shipment visibility, fleet utilization and delivery coordination throughout the automotive supply chain.

Sustainability will also form part of the logistics strategy, with priorities including fuel efficiency, route optimization, Euro-compliant vehicles and potential electrification for suitable shorter-distance routes.

The development highlights the growing importance of integrated inland transportation in strengthening Europe’s automotive supply chain and creating more connected port-to-dealer logistics networks.
