The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) in Metro Manila is set to extend its evening operating hours by one hour beginning next week, following directives from the Department of Transportation (DOTr). This initiative aims to enhance commuter convenience and accommodate the increasing number of passengers during peak hours.
Currently, MRT-3 operates from 4:30 AM to 9:30 PM daily. With the extension, the last trains will depart from the North Avenue station at 10:30 PM and from the Taft Avenue station at 11:09 PM. This adjustment is expected to provide additional commuting options for late-night passengers and alleviate congestion during rush hours.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon conducted an unannounced inspection of MRT-3 during rush hour on March 17, 2025, to assess the current state of commuter services. Following the inspection, he directed MRT-3 management to implement the extended operating hours and to deploy additional trains during peak periods to better serve the public.
“We recognize the need to improve our public transportation services, especially for those who work beyond the usual office hours,” Dizon stated. “Extending MRT-3’s operating hours is a step towards providing more reliable and accessible transit options for our commuters.”
The MRT-3 management has expressed readiness to implement the extended hours and is coordinating with relevant agencies to ensure a smooth transition. Commuters are advised to stay updated on the new schedules and plan their trips accordingly.
This development is part of the DOTr’s ongoing efforts to enhance the quality and efficiency of public transportation in Metro Manila. By extending MRT-3’s operating hours, the department aims to provide more flexible and convenient options for the commuting public, particularly those who work late shifts or have evening engagements.
The extended hours are expected to be implemented starting next week, with exact dates to be announced by MRT-3 management. Commuters are encouraged to monitor official announcements for the latest updates on train schedules and operations.
