Jakarta, February 22, 2025 – The Ministry of Trade, in collaboration with Google Indonesia, has introduced the Gemini Academy, an artificial intelligence (AI) training program aimed at helping small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) enhance their business capabilities through technology.
Trade Minister Budi Santoso announced the initiative at an event in Jakarta on February 20, stating that AI could help businesses streamline processes and access critical information more efficiently.
“Artificial intelligence provides an effective way to simplify bureaucracy and facilitate access to information,” said Santoso. He explained that business owners could use the Gemini platform to gather insights, including market trends and regulatory requirements for exporting to various countries.
The Gemini Academy is part of the Ministry’s “SMEs Can Export” program, which encourages small businesses to adopt technological advancements to improve competitiveness in global markets.
Google Indonesia’s Government Relations and Public Policy Director, Putri Alam, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting SMEs through digital transformation.
“We believe AI can drive inclusive and sustainable economic growth. Google Indonesia remains committed to helping SMEs, which play a significant role in Indonesia’s economy,” said Alam.
According to Google Indonesia, the company has trained two million SMEs over the past seven years through various digital programs. In 2021, in partnership with the Ministry of Trade, it conducted training for over 500 SMEs in Eastern Indonesia.
Alam also highlighted the growing adoption of AI tools among businesses, citing global research indicating that around 380,000 SMEs have used generative AI in Google applications to create advertisements.
Indonesia is the first country to implement Gemini Academy training for SMEs, a move aimed at strengthening their ability to integrate AI into business operations.
