Bentley Initiates Construction of Integrated Logistics Centre to Support Electric Vehicle Production

Bentley Motors has commenced construction on a new Integrated Logistics Centre at its Crewe headquarters in England, aiming to enhance its operations in preparation for electric vehicle (EV) production. The facility is designed to improve efficiency, flexibility, and sustainability as the company transitions towards manufacturing Battery-Powered Electric Vehicles (BEVs), with production slated to begin in 2027.

The new centre will encompass 11,620 square meters, dedicated to material processing and delivery to assembly lines. It will introduce advanced kitting and sequencing capabilities to optimize the handling of various parts. Notably, Bentley plans to implement an automated storage system—a first within the Volkswagen Group—to enhance process stability and material sequencing. This development is expected to increase onsite storage capacity by 35%, reducing reliance on external warehousing and transportation.

Construction Timeline

The construction of the Integrated Logistics Centre is scheduled for completion in October 2025, with operations anticipated to commence by mid-2026. This timeline aligns with Bentley’s Beyond100+ strategy, which aims to offer a fully electric portfolio by 2035.

Strategic Significance

The establishment of this facility represents a significant step in Bentley’s electrification efforts. By enhancing logistics operations, the centre is expected to support the production of future BEV models, aligning with the company’s commitment to sustainability and operational excellence. The inclusion of a three-storey mezzanine within the facility will provide space for offices, a canteen, training rooms, and a viewing platform, aiming to improve workforce conditions and visitor engagement.

Context of Electrification Plans

In November 2024, Bentley announced an adjustment to its electrification timeline, moving the target for a fully electric lineup from 2030 to 2035. The company plans to unveil its first electric SUV in 2026, with production set to occur at the Crewe facility. This strategic shift reflects Bentley’s response to evolving market conditions and its commitment to a sustainable future.

The construction of the Integrated Logistics Centre underscores Bentley’s dedication to transforming its manufacturing capabilities in support of its electrification goals. By investing in infrastructure that enhances efficiency and sustainability, Bentley aims to position itself at the forefront of the luxury electric vehicle market.
