China’s logistics sector continued to demonstrate strong momentum in the first half of 2026, with total social logistics volume reaching 181.1 trillion yuan, reflecting resilient consumer demand, expanding e-commerce, and ongoing upgrades in the country’s supply chain network.
Growth was driven by rising online retail activity, stronger demand for high-quality consumer goods, and continued improvements in logistics infrastructure. Physical goods sold through online retail channels outpaced overall retail growth, highlighting the increasing role of digital commerce in supporting freight movement, warehousing, and last-mile delivery services.
Consumer demand for smart devices, energy-efficient home appliances, communication equipment, cosmetics, and other premium products also contributed to the expansion of logistics services, encouraging further investment in modern distribution networks and advanced fulfillment capabilities.
The report also showed growing opportunities in rural and lower-tier markets, where improvements to county- and township-level logistics networks are expanding market access and strengthening nationwide distribution. These developments are helping businesses reach more consumers while enhancing supply chain efficiency across urban and rural regions.
At the industrial level, logistics demand continued shifting toward high-end manufacturing, advanced equipment, and technology-driven industries, reflecting China’s broader transition to higher-value production and innovation-led growth. The increasing focus on digitalization, green logistics, and smart supply chain solutions is further supporting the country’s long-term economic competitiveness.
The strong performance of consumer logistics underscores the resilience of China’s supply chain ecosystem, with expanding e-commerce, modern logistics infrastructure, and evolving consumer demand continuing to drive growth across manufacturing, distribution, and retail.
