Yusen Logistics Co., Ltd. has entered into an agreement with Ocean Network Express Pte. Ltd. (ONE) to adopt ONE’s green shipping service, ONE LEAF+, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in maritime transportation.
The ONE LEAF+ service utilizes biofuels derived from used cooking oil, known as Used Cooking Oil Methyl Ester (UCOME), which is both non-toxic and biodegradable. This approach allows for a reduction of up to 84% in well-to-wake COâ‚‚ emissions compared to conventional Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (VLSFO).
Through this collaboration, Yusen Logistics plans to offer its customers the option to reduce their Scope 3 GHG emissions by utilizing the ONE LEAF+ service. Customers can select flexible COâ‚‚e savings ranging from approximately 10% to 80% and will receive independently verified emissions reduction certificates to track their environmental impact.
Gilberto Santos, Senior Vice President of Global Commercial and Service Management at ONE, stated that the collaboration represents a significant step in expanding green shipping solutions in Asia, providing customers with the flexibility to reduce supply chain emissions while maintaining reliability.
Kohei Omura, Head of the Ocean Freight Forwarding Group at Yusen Logistics, expressed satisfaction with the agreement, highlighting the company’s commitment to offering eco-friendly shipping solutions and contributing to the reduction of GHG emissions.
This initiative is part of a broader industry trend toward sustainable practices, with companies exploring alternative fuels and technologies to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
Yusen Logistics has also been active in offering services related to Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in air freight and has introduced a platform for managing GHG emissions reductions. The company emphasizes Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations, aiming to deliver unique value to stakeholders and contribute to the resolution of social issues.
The collaboration between Yusen Logistics and ONE exemplifies the industry’s efforts to enhance sustainability in supply chain operations, providing customers with more environmentally friendly shipping options.
