Korail MaaS Reaches Nearly 6 Million Users in Just Six Months

The Korea Railroad Corporation (Korail) has shared that its travel platform, Korail Mobility as a Service (MaaS), has been used over 5.78 million times since it launched in June 2024. This shows how popular the platform has become among travelers, both from South Korea and abroad.

Korail MaaS provides a one-stop solution for anyone’s travel needs by bringing together different transportation services in one place. Users can get real-time updates on trains, buses, and other public transport options, and they can also make reservations and payments directly through the app. Additionally, the platform shares information about local sights and events, making travel more enjoyable.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has worked alongside Korail to create and promote this service. Their goal is to make public transportation easier and more appealing for both locals and tourists. By combining various transport options and travel information into a single app, they aim to simplify the process and eliminate the need for multiple apps.

Besides catering to local users, Korail MaaS has gained a lot of traction among international visitors. In 2024, over 5 million foreign travelers used South Korea’s rail services, which is about one-third of all foreign tourists in the country. This marks a 61% increase compared to the previous year, which Korail credits to better ticketing options and the introduction of a rail pass that includes telecommunication services and unlimited rides in the wider Seoul area.

Looking to the future, Korail plans to make further improvements to the platform by adding more services and features. Upcoming updates might include personalized travel suggestions, more payment choices, and collaborations with local businesses for special deals. These innovations aim to make Korail MaaS an essential tool for navigating South Korea’s transportation and discovering its many attractions.

The success of Korail MaaS reflects a global movement towards Mobility as a Service solutions, which offer smooth and user-friendly travel experiences. By continuously adapting and growing to meet users’ needs, Korail hopes to stay at the forefront of this trend, enhancing travel for everyone.
