Kazakhstan and Estonia are exploring new opportunities for collaboration in digital technologies, logistics, and economic cooperation. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Roman Vassilenko, met with Estonia’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Jaap Ora, to discuss the current state and future prospects of bilateral relations.
During the meeting, both parties highlighted the steady development of diplomatic and economic ties. Discussions focused on expanding trade, strengthening transport and logistics cooperation, and advancing digitalization efforts.
The officials also reviewed the outcomes of the 7th Kazakhstan-Estonia Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation, held on January 23-24, 2025, in Tallinn. The commission, co-chaired by Kazakhstan’s Minister of Transport, Marat Karabayev, and Estonia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Margus Tsahkna, addressed key areas of collaboration between the two nations.
Deputy Minister Vassilenko underscored the importance of implementing agreements reached during the commission meeting to further strengthen economic ties. Both sides expressed their commitment to continued cooperation and outlined plans for upcoming events in 2025, including high-level diplomatic visits.
Trade between Kazakhstan and Estonia in 2024 totaled $71.7 million, marking a 54% decrease compared to $157.5 million in 2023. Kazakhstan’s exports to Estonia amounted to $38.7 million, while imports stood at $33 million. Since 2012, Estonia has invested $98.3 million in Kazakhstan, with $13.6 million in investments recorded by September 2024.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Deputy Minister Vassilenko congratulated Estonia on its 107th anniversary of independence, extending well wishes for peace and prosperity.
