The Indian government has initiated an anti-dumping investigation into imports of glass fibre from China and Bahrain. The decision comes after receiving complaints from domestic manufacturers alleging that these imports are being dumped below fair market prices, adversely affecting the local industry.

The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, announced the probe following an application filed by domestic glass fibre producers. The application highlighted concerns that increased imports from China and Bahrain have resulted in significant injury to the Indian industry.

According to sources, the petitioners have alleged that the dumped imports are causing material injury to the domestic industry, with a noticeable impact on market share, production, and profitability. The investigation will examine whether these imports are being dumped and whether such dumping is causing injury to the domestic industry.

This move underscores India’s commitment to ensuring a level playing field for its domestic industries and protecting them from unfair trade practices. The DGTR will investigate various aspects, including the existence, degree, and effect of alleged dumping, as well as its impact on the Indian market.

Anti-dumping measures are intended to provide relief to the domestic industry by imposing duties on imported products that are priced below fair market value. The investigation typically involves assessing the injury caused to the domestic industry, analyzing the dumping margins, and determining whether imposing anti-dumping duties would be appropriate.

The probe is expected to assess data from concerned parties, including exporters, importers, and the domestic industry. It will also consider economic indicators and other relevant factors to reach an informed decision.

This development highlights ongoing efforts by the Indian government to safeguard the interests of its domestic manufacturing sector amidst global trade dynamics. The outcome of the investigation will depend on the findings of the DGTR and could lead to measures aimed at mitigating the impact of dumped imports on the Indian glass fibre industry.
