The China International Supply Chain Expo (CISCE) is set to host its second edition from November 26-30, 2024, in Beijing, marking a significant event in the global supply chain landscape. This national-level exhibition, organized by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), will bring together nearly 500 enterprises, with more than 30% being foreign-funded—a notable increase from the previous year.

Supported by international organizations such as the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), CISCE aims to foster greater cooperation and stability in global supply chains. The inaugural edition of the expo saw over 200 cooperation agreements signed, valued at more than $21.1 billion, reflecting the importance of such events in enhancing international trade and economic resilience.

As the global economy faces challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, geopolitical tensions, and rising protectionism, supply chains have been significantly disrupted, affecting the cost and availability of goods worldwide. The CISCE offers a platform for stakeholders to address these issues by promoting open and resilient supply chains. China’s commitment to an open world economy and its role as a global trading hub is evident in its ongoing efforts to strengthen international cooperation through initiatives like CISCE.

China’s longstanding policy of reform and opening up has transformed it into a central player in the global economy, now accounting for 18% of global GDP and serving as the primary trading partner for over 140 countries and regions. Despite global challenges, China remains focused on fostering international trade, signing 21 free trade agreements with 28 countries and regions, and continuing to play a pivotal role in global supply chains.

The upcoming CISCE, to be held at the China International Exhibition Center in Beijing, will cover an expansive area of over 100,000 square meters. The event will bring together enterprises from across the supply chain spectrum, including academia, industry, research, and application, offering a unique opportunity for collaboration and knowledge exchange. This year’s expo will focus on enhancing global cooperation, promoting innovation, and supporting a new development paradigm that encourages high-level openness and economic stability.

As global trade continues to face challenges, such as the imposition of nearly 3,000 trade restrictions in 2023 alone, the need for robust supply chains and international cooperation has never been more critical. The CISCE aims to address these challenges by boosting trade, encouraging investment, driving innovation, and facilitating the exchange of knowledge among global stakeholders.

The outcomes of the second CISCE are expected to contribute significantly to the recovery of the global economy, strengthen industrial and supply chains, and support efforts to reach net-zero emissions targets. In a world increasingly defined by economic fragmentation and protectionism, the CISCE stands as a beacon of international collaboration and resilience.
