Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Saturday at the NXT Conclave that India is strengthening its position in the global supply chain due to systematic policy decisions implemented by the government.
“India is not only providing products to the world but is also becoming a reliable partner in the global supply chain,” he said. He noted that farmers, who previously sold their produce in local markets, now have access to international buyers.
According to the Prime Minister, India’s economic shift from an import-driven economy to an emerging export hub is evident. He emphasized the government’s approach of “minimum government and maximum governance” as a guiding principle for policy reforms.
India ranks second globally in farm outputs. As per the Indian Economic Survey 2020-21, agriculture employed over 50% of the workforce and contributed 20.2% to the country’s GDP. Government data indicates that agricultural exports have increased from USD 22.70 billion in 2013-14 to USD 48.15 billion in 2023-24. These exports primarily serve developing and least developed nations, with Indian agricultural and processed foods reaching over 120 countries, including Japan, Southeast Asia, SAARC nations, the European Union, and the United States.
PM Modi also highlighted India’s growth in agriculture, stating that the country supplies 60% of the world’s turmeric and is the seventh-largest producer of coffee globally.
Agriculture and its allied sectors remain the largest source of livelihood in India, particularly in rural areas. Sustainable agricultural practices, including soil conservation and efficient natural resource management, play a crucial role in rural development. The country has seen advancements in agriculture through initiatives such as the Green Revolution, White Revolution, Yellow Revolution, and Blue Revolution.
Beyond agriculture, India’s pharmaceutical and electronics industries are also gaining global recognition. PM Modi noted that India, once known primarily as the “back office” of the world, is now emerging as a key manufacturing hub, reflecting the country’s evolving economic landscape.
