The General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) has been recognized with the Sustainability Excellence Award for attracting the Haier Egypt Electronics project, a significant investment initiative in Egypt.
Hossam Heiba, CEO of GAFI, accepted the award at the 28th International Investment Conference in Riyadh, held from November 25 to 27. The accolade underscores GAFI’s efforts to create an investment-friendly environment that supports sustainable development by integrating advanced environmental, economic, and industrial practices. These initiatives align with Egypt’s Vision 2030, which seeks to balance economic growth with resource conservation and efficiency.
GAFI competed with 84 investment projects from 40 countries to secure the award.
The Haier Industrial Complex, a pioneering eco-friendly project in Egypt, spans 200,000 square meters and operates under the “Golden License,” which simplifies the process of obtaining all necessary permits for facility establishment and operations. With an initial investment of $135 million, the facility produces household appliances, including air conditioners, washing machines, and televisions, for both local and export markets. Production in the first phase began in 2024, with an additional $40 million allocated for the second phase to include refrigerator and freezer production, covering an additional 50,000 square meters.
By implementing sustainability-focused measures like the Golden License, GAFI has attracted numerous projects supporting global sustainability objectives, including those in renewable energy, transportation, logistics, and environmentally friendly industrial production utilizing advanced technologies.
