in Market Trends

Faster digitalisation and AI adoption could increase international trade by US$2.8 trillion annually by 2031, equivalent to a 6.9% uplift above the baseline, according to a new trade scenario analysis.

Digital tools are helping businesses improve supply chain visibility, forecasting, payments, documentation, and compliance. 83% of surveyed companies say digital capabilities help them respond faster to supply chain disruptions.

Services trade is expected to benefit particularly strongly, potentially reaching 11.4% above baseline by 2031, as better data flows and interoperable digital systems reduce cross-border friction.

Businesses are also shifting from completely relocating supply chains toward refining existing networks, strengthening suppliers, inventory strategies, and resilience. Greater integration between supply chain and financial management could further improve agility and support growth.

The findings highlight digitalisation as a major opportunity to make global trade faster, more connected, and more resilient.
