in Global Trade, Import/Export Statistics

China’s rapidly growing demand for imported raw materials, components and industrial inputs is opening new opportunities for suppliers worldwide, highlighting the importance of the country’s import market to global trade.

China’s imports increased 26.7% year on year in US dollar terms during the first seven months of 2026, with import growth outpacing export growth by 8.2 percentage points.

A significant share of this demand comes from intermediate goods, including raw materials, electronic components and semi-finished products. As China continues to upgrade its manufacturing and technology industries, demand for imported inputs is also expanding.

In the first half of 2026, imports of metal ores rose 22.6%, while imports of electronic components increased 45.6%. Growing demand for AI computing, intelligent vehicles and advanced manufacturing is helping strengthen these trade flows.

The trend highlights China’s role not only as a major exporter, but also as a key demand center within global supply chains. Suppliers across more than 150 countries and regions recorded increased exports to China during the first half of the year.

For global businesses, the expanding import market creates opportunities to participate more deeply in China’s industrial growth through raw materials, components, technology and manufacturing inputs.

The development also reinforces the value of stronger trade cooperation and diversified market access as global supply chains continue to evolve.
