Huzhou City, located in northern Zhejiang Province and part of the rapidly developing Yangtze River Delta, has seen significant growth in its logistics sector. The city, often referred to as the “logistics valley” of China, has focused on green, smart, and unmanned equipment manufacturing and the development of advanced operating systems in recent years. According to customs data, the export of mechanical and electrical products from the Yangtze River Delta region reached 3.3 trillion yuan (approximately 460.6 billion U.S. dollars) in the first seven months of this year, marking a 7.7 percent increase compared to the same period last year. This accounted for 59.6 percent of China’s total exports in these categories. Huzhou stands out as the only pilot demonstration city for green and smart manufacturing in the country.
In one of the city’s unmanned warehouses, which spans 20,000 square meters, a smart warehousing and logistics system operates autonomously, handling 600 tons of goods daily from its 40,000 stocks. The system, developed by a local enterprise, has propelled the company to the top of the global market for light and small delivery vehicles for 18 consecutive years. The company has now transitioned to manufacturing unmanned forklifts. Zhou Minlong, deputy general manager of the smart logistics equipment company, highlighted that their laser positioning technology has enabled full-scale smart operation, improving efficiency and reducing the number of forklifts needed from 50 to 40. This advancement not only optimizes warehouse operations but also integrates intelligent logistics systems, making the process more economical and efficient.
To date, this smart logistics system has been implemented in over 2,000 projects across more than 120 countries and regions. “Green is the foundation of Huzhou’s development. In recent years, to cultivate new quality productive forces, Huzhou has introduced around 500 enterprises within the intelligent logistics equipment industry chain, achieving an industry concentration ratio exceeding 90 percent,” said Shen Liangbiao, secretary general of the Huzhou Municipal Logistics Equipment Association.
