Members of Unifor Local 101R at Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railway (CPKC) have voted in favor of strike action, with 99 percent of members supporting the mandate. The vote indicates that the workers may strike if a new collective agreement is not reached by January 29.
Negotiations are scheduled to continue in Calgary from January 24-29, with Unifor’s bargaining committee aiming to secure an agreement that addresses the needs of over 1,200 members. The workers, employed in mechanical shops, are responsible for inspecting and maintaining CPKC’s locomotives and freight cars, ensuring the safety and operational readiness of the equipment.
The union has emphasized the critical role these workers play in Canada’s transportation network and the importance of achieving a fair collective agreement.
