Chef Robotics, a startup specializing in food automation, has raised $43 million in a funding round led by Avataar Ventures. Other investors participating in the round include Construct Capital, Bloomberg Beta, and Promus Ventures. The funding consists of $20.6 million in equity and $22.5 million in equipment financing debt. The debt will support the company’s Robotics-as-a-Service (RaaS) model, allowing customers to use robotic systems without requiring an upfront capital investment.
Chef Robotics will tailor its solutions to meet customer-specific needs, including ingredient specifications, portion sizes, tray configurations, placement requirements, and conveyor systems. The company has already produced over 40 million servings through installations with notable clients such as Amy’s Kitchen, Sunbasket, Chef Bombay, and Cafe Spice.
The company’s AI model training leverages data collected from meal production, and this increased data is key to optimizing its system’s performance. With this new funding, Chef Robotics plans to expand its robotic system deployments and enhance its data collection capabilities, which will support the company’s growth in meal production.
Rajat Bhageria, founder and CEO of Chef Robotics, emphasized that advancements in AI are transforming the food robotics industry. “We believe we’re in a strong position to scale, thanks to the real-world production data we already have,” Bhageria stated.
Mohan Kumar, founder and managing partner of Avataar Ventures, noted the significant potential of AI in industrial processes, particularly in food packaging automation. “Food is one of the largest markets in the world, and industrial AI is already having a transformative impact on how we get our meals,” Kumar added.
This funding will enable Chef Robotics to continue improving its technology and expand its reach in the rapidly growing food automation sector.
