South Korea is extending measures to protect supplies of urea, urea solution, medical syringes and needles through October 31 as the government continues to strengthen supply-chain resilience. At the same time, restrictions on urea stockpiling will be eased as China relaxes controls on urea exports, giving importers and suppliers greater flexibility while maintaining safeguards against excessive hoarding.
The revised rules will allow businesses to hold up to 200% of their average monthly sales from the previous year for up to seven days, compared with the previous 150% limit. Urea remains an important input for diesel emissions control and agricultural fertilizers, making stable availability essential for transportation and food production.
The measures reflect South Korea’s broader effort to secure critical supplies amid changing global trade conditions, geopolitical tensions and fluctuations in petrochemical markets. By balancing strategic stock management with improved access to imports, the country is working to maintain reliable supply flows while reducing the risk of future disruptions.
