Blount Fine Foods has made great strides in improving its supply chain by implementing a new unified planning system. The family-owned company, which is known for its brands like Panera Bread and Legal Sea Foods, has teamed up with technology partner Relex Solutions to bring together its previously separate supply chain processes.
Blount Fine Foods recognized that its old manual systems made it hard to see what was happening across its seven distribution centers and production facilities. By moving to a centralized planning approach, the company has improved its long-term forecasting. This means they can now better manage sales predictions, manufacturing capabilities, and service quality.
Jonathan Wells, the Senior Director of Demand Management at Blount, explained that the new system helps the company understand how different operational choices affect each other, leading to better use of resources. Notable improvements include a 5% increase in annual production, a 35% cut in waste, a 2% boost in production efficiency, and a 50% decrease in forecasting errors over the past two years.
Blount Fine Foods’ investment is part of a larger trend in the industry where companies are updating their supply chain practices to enhance efficiency, sustainability, and adaptability in a complex market.
