The global logistics sector continues to demonstrate resilience, with strong air freight demand and expanding ocean shipping market share supporting improved financial performance and higher industry growth expectations in 2026.
A leading Swiss freight forwarder has raised its full-year operating profit outlook for the third time this year, now expecting recurring earnings before interest and taxes of CHF 1.5 billion to CHF 1.6 billion. The improved forecast reflects continued momentum in air logistics, stronger performance on major shipping routes and growing demand from technology-related industries.
Air freight has emerged as a key growth driver, with quarterly operating profit increasing 84% to CHF 169 million. Shipment volume growth accelerated to 10%, supported by demand from cloud infrastructure and semiconductor customers. These trends highlight the increasing importance of reliable, time-sensitive transportation for technology supply chains.
Ocean freight operations also recorded significant gains, with operating profit rising 55% to CHF 172 million, supported by increased market share on Asia outbound and transatlantic routes. The results reflect opportunities for logistics providers to strengthen their positions as international trade flows continue despite transportation bottlenecks and geopolitical uncertainty.
Across the wider sector, elevated freight rates, resilient trade activity and supply chain disruptions are influencing business performance. Logistics providers are also investing in cost efficiency and digital transformation, with AI-driven productivity improvements expected to contribute further savings from 2027 onward.
For supply chain stakeholders, these developments highlight the continued importance of flexible freight strategies, dependable transportation capacity and technology-enabled operations. As demand evolves across global markets, businesses that strengthen logistics planning and adapt to changing shipping conditions can better support trade continuity and long-term supply chain resilience.
