India is set to explore alternative oil sourcing options at the India Energy Week (IEW) 2025, which begins on Tuesday. The four-day event will bring together global energy ministers, industry leaders, and policymakers to discuss key developments in the energy sector.

Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri stated that IEW 2025 will be one of the largest energy events globally in terms of ministerial participation, CEO attendance, and exhibition scale. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the event virtually.

India, one of the world’s largest crude oil importers, is evaluating options to diversify its energy supply in light of recent sanctions on Russian crude. These sanctions, introduced by the outgoing U.S. administration, are expected to impact India’s access to discounted Russian oil. However, officials have suggested that the situation may evolve in the coming months.

Energy ministers from several countries, including Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Saad Sherida al-Kaabi and the UK’s Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change Edward Miliband, will attend the event. Representatives from African nations such as Tanzania, Djibouti, Liberia, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo will also be present. Executives from leading global energy companies are expected to participate in discussions on international energy collaboration.

Previously held in Bangalore and Goa, this year’s edition of IEW is being hosted in New Delhi. The event aims to position India as a key contributor to global energy policy discussions beyond its role as a major energy consumer.

The agenda will cover emerging technologies, including battery storage, advanced biofuels, green hydrogen, and green ammonia. The 2025 edition will introduce 20 thematic categories, expanding its focus on areas such as artificial intelligence, digitalization, and maritime decarbonization.

The conference will feature 10 country pavilions, including those from the U.S., UK, Russia, Japan, Germany, and the Netherlands. Eight thematic zones will highlight innovations in hydrogen, renewable energy, biofuels, and petrochemicals.

The event venue has expanded to accommodate increased participation, with exhibition space growing by 65% compared to the previous year. Over 70,000 delegates are expected to attend, marking a 55% increase. The program includes 105 conference sessions, 500 speakers, and more than 700 exhibitors.

Notable exhibits will include ONGC’s deep-sea simulation game, HPCL’s indigenous Solid Oxide Fuel Cell System, BPCL’s LPG cylinder ATM, and a newly developed e-tractor by the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) for sustainable agriculture.

Additionally, the Petroleum Ministry will host a Clean Cooking Ministerial, which will convene policymakers, industry leaders, and experts to discuss strategies for promoting clean cooking solutions worldwide.
