Apple Inc. has announced plans to invest more than $500 billion in the United States over the next four years. The investment will support manufacturing, research and development, workforce training, and advanced technology initiatives.
As part of the plan, Apple will construct a 250,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Houston, Texas, which will focus on assembling servers for the company’s cloud computing operations. The servers, previously manufactured outside the U.S., will be used for Apple’s Private Cloud Compute, a system designed to support artificial intelligence applications with enhanced security measures.
Expansion of Advanced Manufacturing Fund
Apple also plans to expand its U.S. Advanced Manufacturing Fund from $5 billion to $10 billion. Established in 2017, the fund supports domestic innovation and high-skilled manufacturing jobs. A portion of the increased investment will go toward producing advanced silicon at TSMC’s Fab 21 facility in Arizona, where Apple is a key customer.
Workforce Development and AI Training
In addition to manufacturing investments, Apple will create the Apple Manufacturing Academy in Detroit, which will provide training programs focused on artificial intelligence, smart manufacturing techniques, project management, and process optimization. The initiative aims to support small and medium-sized businesses by offering free in-person and online courses.
Apple plans to hire around 20,000 new employees as part of the expansion, with positions in research and development, software engineering, AI, and machine learning.
Apple CEO Tim Cook emphasized the company’s commitment to U.S. innovation, stating:
“We’re proud to build on our long-standing U.S. investments with this commitment to our country’s future. We will continue working with people and companies across the country to support innovation and manufacturing.”
Apple’s investment aligns with broader trends in reshoring manufacturing and expanding domestic technology production.
