Andriy Yermak, the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, recently met with a group of international alumni from the Institute of International Relations (IIR) at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. The alumni were visiting Ukraine to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the university’s establishment.

Among the attendees were prominent figures including Hamada Madi, former Prime Minister and Acting President of Comoros; Valeri Chechelashvili, former Ambassador of Georgia to Ukraine; Gela Bezhuashvili, former Minister of Defense and Foreign Affairs of Georgia; Altai Efendiev, former Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Spain and Secretary General of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM; Arturo Condori Romero, international law expert from Peru and Director of the Latam Center (Gdansk); Oltion Çaçi, Mayor of Sarandë, Albania; and Levan Varshalomidze, former Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara (Georgia).

During the meeting, Yermak emphasized the importance of such visits, noting that they allow international visitors to gain a deeper understanding of Ukraine’s current situation amid Russia’s ongoing aggression. He highlighted the value of alumni who have lived and studied in Ukraine, as they are able to better comprehend the country’s motivations and share its perspective with the global community.

“Ukraine is a country that desires peace more than anyone else. Everything we offer today, including our Peace Formula, aligns with the principles enshrined in the UN Charter,” said Yermak.

The alumni expressed gratitude for their educational experiences in Ukraine, recalling fond memories of their time at the university and noting the nation’s multicultural and welcoming atmosphere. They also acknowledged Ukraine’s role as a significant player in global diplomacy.

On November 28, several of the IIR alumni participated in the international forum “Diplomacy Today: Ukraine’s Role in Global Politics,” which was held to mark the university’s 80th anniversary. The forum brought together approximately 700 participants, including government officials such as Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha, Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications Mykola Tochytskyi, Minister of Youth and Sports Matvii Bidnyi, and Deputy Heads of the Presidential Office Ihor Zhovkva and Olena Kovalska. The forum featured discussions on the current challenges and opportunities facing international diplomacy.
