Organization of Turkic States Enhances Logistics and Transport to Boost Internal Trade

The Organization of Turkic States (OTS) has initiated a series of measures aimed at enhancing logistics and transport cooperation among its member countries to increase internal trade to 10% of their total trade turnover.

In June 2024, the OTS established the Alliance of Logistics Centers and Cargo Carriers during a meeting in Tashkent. This Alliance brings together major logistics centers, carriers, terminals, and ports across Turkic states, aiming to foster efficient cooperation, improve transport infrastructure, attract investments through public-private partnerships, and implement innovative solutions for fast, regular, and cost-effective freight transport.

Subsequently, in August 2024, the Alliance convened in Istanbul with Turkish transport and logistic companies. Co-chaired by OTS Deputy Secretary General Dr. Mirvokhid Azimov and Alliance Secretary General Mr. Askar Kadirov, the meeting included around 30 key representatives from major transport and logistics companies and associations in Türkiye. Participants expressed interest in joining the Alliance, explored potential collaboration avenues, and discussed challenges faced by the private sector in transport, along with potential solutions. They agreed to leverage the Alliance’s platform to advance strategic dialogues with governmental authorities across the Turkic states, focusing on critical issues such as mitigating vehicle congestion at border crossings and collaboratively launching Ro-Ro and Ro-Pax ferries in the Caspian Sea.

In January 2025, the 10th meeting of the heads of customs services of OTS countries was held in Baku. Key topics discussed included the creation of a simplified customs corridor, the introduction of the e-TIR information system, and the implementation of the Trans-Caspian Customs Transit Portal project. These initiatives aim to harmonize customs procedures, optimize transit routes, and enhance the region’s logistical capacity.

Collectively, these efforts by the OTS reflect a concerted strategy to strengthen internal trade through improved logistics and transport cooperation, aligning with the organization’s broader goals of economic integration and regional development.
