Canada is advancing its role in the critical minerals sector as new investment and exploration activity support efforts to strengthen the tungsten supply chain in North America.
A US$450 million investment from the United States government is supporting expanded domestic tungsten capacity and efforts to develop a more secure and diversified supply of the critical mineral. Tungsten is widely used in aerospace, defence, advanced manufacturing and other industrial applications.
The development highlights the importance of reliable access to critical minerals as industries seek to strengthen sourcing networks and support long term manufacturing needs. Expanding production capacity across North America can contribute to greater diversification within regional mineral supply chains.
In northern British Columbia, more than 800 metres of drilling have been completed at a historic tungsten system. The exploration program is examining the structure, continuity and potential extensions of tungsten bearing mineralization, with laboratory assay results pending.
Historical exploration identified several tungsten bearing areas in the region. These findings are being considered alongside current exploration as efforts continue to assess the area’s potential contribution to future mineral supply.
The developments form part of broader efforts to expand critical mineral supply chains through investment, exploration and domestic production. Increased capacity in Canada and the United States could support more diversified sourcing networks for industries that depend on tungsten and other strategic materials.
