Joe Metzger, with an extensive background in supply chain management, has been appointed as a lecturer at the University of Arkansas, specifically within the Sam M. Walton College of Business’s Master of Supply Chain Management Program. This announcement was made by Brian Fugate, the department chair. Metzger, who brings over three decades of experience from his roles in leading companies like Walmart, Kellogg’s, and Kraft/Heinz, will contribute to the J.B. Hunt Transport Department of Supply Chain Management.
This department is recognized as the second-leading graduate supply chain program in North America by Gartner. His career highlights include leading strategy, planning, capital, and automation investments at Walmart, achieving substantial growth and profitability. At the University of Arkansas, Metzger is expected to leverage his comprehensive experience to enrich the learning environment for students. Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Metzger shared his ongoing passion for supply chain learning and leadership development.
His prior position as the executive vice president of supply chain operations at Walmart involved overseeing a vast network of distribution and fulfillment centers, and he played a significant role in navigating the company’s supply chain during the pandemic. Before his tenure at Walmart, Metzger was pivotal in transforming the supply chain operations at Kellogg Corporation and Kraft Heinz Company, where he led various initiatives to drive growth, margin improvement, and operational excellence. Metzger, a South Dakota State University alumnus, has also been involved with Pritzker Private Capital and Partners Group Private Equity, offering his expertise as a senior adviser and board director post-retirement.
