France’s finance ministry is organizing an auction of customs-seized items in a noteworthy event, featuring a diverse array of items such as platinum bars, designer handbags, historical coins, uncut diamonds, and bottles of vodka. The 350 lots, collectively valued at approximately €1 million, will be presented to over 1,200 potential buyers at the finance ministry in Bercy, Paris.

Among the notable items up for auction are 14 platinum bars weighing 1kg each, bearing the stamp “Crédit Suisse.” These bars, discovered in the luggage of individuals traveling to the UK, are priced at a starting bid of €22,000 each. Additionally, a Volkswagen Golf intercepted at the French-Spanish border was found to contain 480kg of cannabis resin.

The catalogue of seized items includes gold sovereigns featuring the likenesses of British monarchs Elizabeth II, Victoria, Edward VII, and George V, along with gold “Napoléons.” Luxury goods such as handbags from Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Fendi, and Valentino, as well as high-end watches, perfumes, and Bottega Veneta shoes, are also part of the auction. An assortment of uncut diamonds, including a lot totaling 197.95 carats seized at Paris airports, will be available for purchase.

Certain items, including three and a half pallets of Grey Goose vodka bottles with a starting price of €10,000, will only be sold to professional buyers for security or legal reasons.

The finance ministry emphasized that the auction showcases the diversity of objects seized by customs officers in their ongoing efforts to combat illegal activities that pose threats to the nation’s security and the well-being of its citizens and the environment.
