Vietnam’s exports to Japan surpassed US$16 billion over the past eight months, reflecting a 4.8% increase compared to the same period last year, according to data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs. Significant growth was observed in several sectors, including garments and textiles, which achieved a turnover of US$2.74 billion, up 6.6% year-on-year. Other key areas included means of transport and spare parts with US$1.95 billion, marking a 3.2% increase, and machinery, equipment, tools, and spare parts with US$1.76 billion. Noteworthy increases were also recorded in categories such as computers, electronic products, and components, which saw a 36.5% rise; coffee, up 41.1%; fertilizers, up 350.1%; and glass products, up 73.3%.
Japan’s market remains a significant opportunity for Vietnamese exports, supported by preferential tariff incentives from various Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), including the Vietnam-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (VJEPA), the ASEAN-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership (AJCEP), the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). Despite the positive growth, Vietnamese exports to Japan account for only 6.6% of the nation’s total export turnover, indicating further potential for expansion in this market.
