On February 15, 2025, the Ukrainian President implemented a decision by the National Security and Defense Council, imposing a series of personal sanctions on several high-profile business figures and politicians. The sanctions target former PrivatBank cofounders Ihor Kolomoisky and Hennadii Boholiubov, former owner of Finance and Credit Bank Kostiantyn Zhevago, current Member of Parliament and former President Petro Poroshenko, and former pro-Russian politician Viktor Medvedchuk.
The sanctions introduce extensive restrictive measures, including an asset freeze, trade restrictions, suspension of economic obligations, and bans on public procurement. Other measures include prohibiting the withdrawal of capital from Ukraine, preventing participation in privatization or land acquisition, and restrictions on securities transactions and dividend payments.
These sanctions are applied indefinitely, and businesses associated with the sanctioned individuals may face implications due to their involvement. The full scope of sanctions is detailed in the annex to the official decree.
The decision marks a significant development in Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to address political and economic influence within the country.
