As part of the 100 Days Achievements of the Department of Food and Public Distribution under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, the Food Corporation of India (FCI) is undertaking a significant digital transformation initiative to modernize its existing supply chain management system, known as the ‘Depot Online System.’ This project involves implementing a new microservices-based integrated supply chain management system named ANNA DARPAN, aimed at enhancing operations and services across various levels, including Mandis, Mills, Depots (both owned and hired), as well as divisional, regional, zonal, and headquarters operations. To facilitate this initiative, FCI has selected M/s Coforge Limited as the system integrator. The contract was signed on June 14, 2024, and Coforge Limited will be responsible for the end-to-end design, development, implementation, and maintenance of the ANNA DARPAN system.
The project is conceived as a comprehensive turnkey solution that includes the provisioning of a cloud environment for hosting the system. The application will utilize a service mesh architecture, enabling seamless communication among microservices and API-based integration with external applications associated with FCI. Additionally, the project will focus on developing a centralized analytics platform, empowering FCI to make informed, data-driven decisions. The ANNA DARPAN system is designed to achieve several key objectives that align with the strategic vision of FCI leadership. These objectives include improved efficiency and productivity through streamlined processes, interactive and user-friendly UI design to enhance user interaction, and data-driven decision-making utilizing data analytics to support strategic and operational decisions. Furthermore, the system will facilitate integration with internal and external systems, merge existing internal systems to reduce redundancy, and prioritize a mobile-first approach to ensure the system is available anytime, anywhere.
During the Requirement Gathering, Analysis, and Documentation phase, M/s Coforge Limited has conducted an extensive study of FCI’s operations. This process involves a thorough assessment of FCI’s requirements, existing process flows, and potential integration opportunities with current applications. Representatives from Coforge Limited, in collaboration with the IT Division at FCI Headquarters, have initiated requirement-gathering activities, including visits to multiple field offices. These efforts are critical to capturing a comprehensive understanding of FCI’s operational ecosystem, ensuring that ANNA DARPAN is tailored to meet the organization’s specific needs. The requirement gathering is currently underway.
