Tesla Releases FSD Beta v12.12 with Enhanced Autonomous Driving Capabilities

Tesla has commenced the rollout of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) version 12.12 to customers, bringing notable advancements to the company’s self-driving software.

The release notes for Tesla FSD v. 12.12 state, “FSD Beta v12 upgrades the city streets’ driving stack to a single end-to-end neural network trained on millions of video clips, replacing over 300k lines of explicit C++ code.”

Early reports from customers who have experienced FSD Beta v12.12 on the road highlight substantial improvements in Tesla’s autonomous software. Numerous FSD Beta testers have shared positive feedback, citing smoother driving experiences with zero interventions, takeovers, or awkward moments.

Dhaval Shroff, a tester, expressed confidence in the update, stating, “This car will never get into a collision if you turn this thing on, even in unstructured environments.” Shroff drew a comparison between Tesla FSD Beta v12.12 and ChatGPT for cars.

Elon Musk mentioned in December that version 12 required additional training, particularly in areas with heavy precipitation, before being released to customers. It remains to be seen whether version 12.12 has addressed and improved the performance of FSD Beta under such conditions.

Musk announced that FSD Beta v12 will shed the “beta” designation, marking a significant milestone for Tesla’s autonomous software. This move signifies the company’s confidence in the maturity and reliability of its self-driving technology.
