In the past year, Australian ports have seen a significant increase in vehicle arrivals, driven by large order volumes and a surge in demand following the COVID-19 pandemic. This increase, coupled with the entry of new market players, has raised important questions about vehicle storage capabilities. BTi Logistics has responded to this challenge by partnering with several globally recognized original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and distributors to offer flexible vehicle storage and handling solutions nationwide. Over the past nine months, the company has processed more than 10,000 vehicles and now utilizes over 160,000 square meters of dedicated warehousing space for the storage and handling of new vehicles.
According to BTi Logistics Managing Director Michael Parakh, the rise in demand can be attributed to several factors. “COVID-related pressures and unprecedented demand certainly kicked things off, but a changing economic landscape, resulting in reduced demand as well as an influx of new vehicles into the market, have further compounded the issues. Now throw in supply and shipping challenges coming from multiple angles over the past few years, and you have a very challenging landscape for OEMs,” he noted.
In 2023, BTi Logistics has played a crucial role in supporting the automotive industry through dedicated quarantine services. This initiative has ensured the efficient processing of quarantine-affected vehicles that would otherwise remain at ports for extended periods, incurring significant costs for OEMs. Previously unavailable in bulk, this solution enabled BTi Logistics to clean over 4,000 vehicles in Melbourne with a considerably faster turnaround than would typically be achievable.
The outlook for the automotive logistics sector remains uncertain as OEMs and distributors continue to navigate a complex environment in managing shipments. BTi Logistics is committed to providing innovative and adaptable storage and handling solutions to support the industry during this challenging time.
