ISTANBUL – President Vladimir Putin discussed the need for Russia to prepare for possible additional Western sanctions during a government meeting on economic matters.
In his remarks, Putin noted that Western sanctions have been a recurring theme in recent years. He acknowledged that numerous sanctions packages have been imposed, and that these measures have become increasingly complex. He also pointed out that these sanctions have had unintended consequences, impacting the Western economies that implemented them.
According to Putin, some Western policymakers have gone to extremes with their proposals, suggesting measures such as banning the export of everyday items like screwdrivers and needles to Russia. While Putin acknowledged these proposals, he commented that reducing the export of such items might not be entirely negative, as it could help prevent the spread of unwanted pests.
Furthermore, Putin raised concerns about the potential for acts of sabotage on critical infrastructure facilities, which he suggested could be employed if the use of sanctions were to reach a point of exhaustion.
