Progress Software Releases 2021 CSR Report Highlighting Key Initiatives and Achievements

Progress Software Corporation, a trusted provider of infrastructure software, has published its 2021 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report, marking the third annual release of this document. The report details the company’s initiatives and achievements in the realms of inclusion and diversity (I&D), human rights, philanthropy, charitable giving, volunteerism, and environmental sustainability. Additionally, Progress has supplemented this report with a Sustainability Appendix to provide further insights into its sustainability efforts.

Yogesh Gupta, CEO of Progress, highlighted several significant milestones achieved in 2021. These include the 40th anniversary of the company, the appointment of their first Chief Inclusion and Diversity Officer, the formation of two new Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), and the expansion of their Women in STEM scholarship series. The establishment of the Progress Earth Team was another key development, focusing on sustainability objectives. The company’s global charitable giving program also made substantial impacts in various communities.

Progress Software’s CSR program, named ‘Progress for Tomorrow’, has garnered recognition from various bodies, including The International CSR Excellence Awards, MassTLC’s Tech Top 50, and the American Business Awards. The company has also been lauded as a top employer by Forbes, the Boston Globe, Boston Business Journal, Kincentric Research, and Great Place to Work®.

Key highlights from the 2021 CSR report are as follows:

Our People:

  • The appointment of Dr. Shirley Knowles as the first Chief Inclusion and Diversity Officer.
  • Implementation of I&D training initiatives, focusing on inclusive hiring, unconscious bias, and intersectionality.
  • Launch of two new ERGs: ASPIRE (Asian-Pacific Islanders) and Unidos en Progress (Hispanics and Latinx), expanding the company’s ERG network.
  • Introduction of Juneteenth and International Women’s Day as company holidays.

Our Communities:

  • Donation of $400,000 and numerous volunteer hours to 74 charitable organizations globally.
  • Expansion of the charitable giving program in the U.S. with an employee-driven sponsorship program.
  • Extension of the Women in STEM scholarship series, including the introduction of the Progress Software Akanksha Scholarship for Women in STEM in India.

Our World:

  • Investment in sustainable office spaces in Hyderabad, Rotterdam, and Burlington, MA, and retaining ENERGY STAR® certification for its Global Headquarters.
  • Formation of the Progress Earth Team to promote sustainable practices within the company.
  • Improvement in energy utilization tracking through the installation of smart electric and water meters in selected offices.

The company has also adopted the Sustainability Accounting Standard Board (SASB) recommendations for standardized reporting on sustainability, which is increasingly important to investors and the global economy. This move towards standardized reporting underlines Progress’s commitment to transparency in its sustainability efforts.
