Production Systems Automation (PSA) in Duryea is a significant hub of innovation in the realm of automation and robotics. Situated across nearly 25 acres with three warehouse buildings totaling over 90,000 square feet, the facility houses a range of cutting-edge projects.
According to PSA CEO Michael McHale, the work undertaken within the facility encompasses various surprising endeavors. These include a technology-driven ghost kitchen, drones, 3D printers, and automated medical devices for procedures like implanting tubing into the body.
Established in 1985, PSA has expanded to three locations across Pennsylvania. The Duryea site, added in 2018, functions as the company’s Community of Businesses Corporate HQ Campus. It employs professionals from diverse fields such as software engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering.
PSA specializes in designing, building, and fabricating custom machinery tailored to businesses seeking automated solutions to enhance efficiency and ensure worker safety. McHale emphasizes the company’s commitment to addressing clients’ specific challenges and fostering creativity among its workforce.
Despite concerns about potential job displacement due to automation, McHale contends that PSA’s initiatives focus on upskilling rather than replacing human labor. He argues that the automation processes undertaken by the company typically involve tasks that are undesirable or unsafe for humans.
PSA actively contributes to education and workforce development in industrial technology through initiatives like sponsoring Lackawanna College’s Center for Technology Innovation (CIT) and hosting a podcast to engage and inform listeners about technological advancements.
Looking ahead, McHale expresses optimism about the prospects of automation and robotics technology in the Northeastern Pennsylvania (NEPA) region. He emphasizes the importance of continued growth for PSA, driven by collaboration with innovative partners poised to revolutionize the industry in the coming years.
