The Port of Los Angeles reported successfully blocking approximately 750 million cyber-intrusion attempts throughout 2023, underscoring its ongoing collaboration with the Biden administration to enhance cyber-resilience.
During an April 17 briefing, Gene Seroka, the port’s executive director, alongside Anne Neuberger, a cybersecurity advisor for the Biden administration, shared updates on the port’s cybersecurity measures. Neuberger emphasized the role of the Port of Los Angeles’ Cyber Resilience Center (CRC), which was established in 2022. The CRC has been instrumental in identifying and countering cyber threats, serving as a model for public-private cooperation in safeguarding critical infrastructure.
Further highlighting cybersecurity concerns, Neuberger discussed recent issues involving Chinese-built cranes at U.S. ports. She detailed the administration’s initiatives to boost domestic manufacturing of such equipment with trusted vendors, emphasizing the importance of secure hardware and software in creating a reliable infrastructure.
These efforts reflect a concerted approach by both the Port of Los Angeles and the federal government to strengthen cybersecurity defenses in critical sectors, ensuring the integrity and safety of essential services.
