In August of this year, Peru exported 4,708 tons of ginger, generating $9.69 million in revenue. This represents a 33% decrease in volume and an 18% decrease in value compared to the same month last year. Despite the overall decline in exports, the price per kilogram rose by 23%, increasing from $1.67 to $2.06. The United States remained the primary market for Peruvian ginger, accounting for 46% of total exports. During this period, the U.S. imported 2,111 tons valued at $4.46 million, marking a 22% decrease in volume and a 2% decrease in value year-over-year. However, the average price in this market increased by 26%, rising from $1.68 per kilogram to $2.11.
The Netherlands followed as the second-largest market, with a 36.8% share. This market imported 1,653 tons worth $3.57 million, representing a 31% decline in volume and a 10% decline in value. The average price in the Netherlands also saw an increase of 29%, from $1.68 to $2.16 per kilogram. Canada ranked third among ginger importers, with a 4.7% share. The country imported 247 tons of Peruvian ginger valued at $457,000, which reflects a 45% decrease in volume and a 42% decrease in value. The average price in Canada increased by 6%, reaching $1.85 per kilogram.
