China’s logistics sector showed signs of recovery in February, following the end of the Spring Festival in late January, according to data from the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing (CFLP) released on Tuesday.
The logistics market prosperity index for February stood at 49.3%, reflecting ongoing recovery as businesses resumed operations, major infrastructure projects began in various regions, and industries within the supply chain gradually regained momentum after the holiday period. The road and railway transportation sectors were in an expansion zone, while waterborne transport activity continued to improve.
Key sectors such as multimodal transportation and postal express logistics, particularly in e-commerce, reported increased business activity. The business volume indices for these sectors were 55.6% and 66.3%, respectively, indicating strong growth.
Liu Yuhang, director of the China Logistics Information Center, noted, “Since February, demand for logistics in industries such as consumer goods, metallurgy, chemicals, and smart manufacturing has grown steadily, contributing to the rise in physical logistics volume. The central and eastern regions of China have seen a marked rebound, particularly in railway and road transportation, with new orders consistently in an expansion zone.”
In February, logistics companies also reported a slowdown in the rate of cost increases, and the main business profit index rose by 0.3 percentage points from the previous month.
Notably, road transportation, water transport, warehousing, and multimodal transport sectors all experienced profit growth compared to the previous month.
